As I got older my reading tastes changed, I found myself reading more Comics, my favourites being, 'Beano' and 'Whizzer & Chips', and the 'Archie' stories from the U.S, they were also animated for TV. Because my Father, was a Lancaster pilot from 1943-45, during WW2, I started reading War comics especially 'Commando' which had tales of young English pilots who were usually well educated and they had hyphenated surnames such as Foxley-Thwaite , and spoke with excessively fruity expressions, such as "Chocks away", "Tally ho", and to someone who was bad,he was a "beastly bugger". They all pulled of exploits of bravery and share stupidity.
I was then introduced to Roald Dahl, and I read ' Mathilda', a tale about Mathilda Wormwood, a 5 year old girl, of high intelligence, who possesses the power of Telekinesis, the ability to move objects by mere thought. She seeks revenge on all those who torment and bully her, including her parents Harry & Zinnia who neglect her, and her School Headmistress Miss Trunchball. This was one of the many books Dahl wrote, each one possessed a dark tale and twisted characters, whose every infirmity no matter how grotesque was revealed.
